Natural Art In Your Home

Art can ground you, connect you to the elements of nature and also bring drama to your decorating style. After a trip to New Zealand, I explored a new technique where I inlayed paua shell and fern into maple bowls with bold and stunning results. The rich colour and figuring of our local maple is contrasted with the black epoxy, shell and fern for a dramatic effect.

I use many different woods in my turning. A Eucalyptus Burl Bowl has distinctive swirling grain, warm red earthy tones, and that incredible natural figuring only a burl can create. Each curve and pattern is shaped by nature, revealed through careful turning and a food-safe finish that makes it as functional as it is beautiful.

A piece like this brings the forest indoors- organic, elegant, and completely one-of-a-kind.

The tactile and organic qualities of burl art can create a sense of warmth and connection to nature in your home. Bowls shaped by careful hands celebrate the imperfection of a burl and remind us that beauty often lies in the unexpected.
